I am a mother and passionate promoter of women’s rights. My journey to becoming a Birth Doula and Licensed Massage Therapist began nine years ago. I was a terrified young pregnant woman, who found herself overwhelmed with fears stemming from horrid television narratives and petrifying accounts of other women’s birthing experiences. Luckily, I was introduced to a Doula through my birthing hospital.
During our first prenatal visit, I learned my Birth Doula was a Licensed Massage Therapist. She helped diminish my fears as we discussed my worries and developed a birth plan. I was provided with educational, emotional and physical support during my pregnancy; it prepared my mind and body for labor. My Doula was there for me from the time of our first prenatal consult throughout labor till the time my daughter began breastfeeding. Instantly, after giving birth I was left with an invigorating powered feeling, as if I could run a marathon. It allowed me to fully enjoy the initial bonding time with my beautiful 7.2lb, 20.5in baby girl. Having a Birth Doula allowed me to have a memorable birthing experience. Giving me the ability to remember the details with my Doula filling in the blanks of my labor. Which enables me to share those memories with my daughter till this day.
As a result, I developed a lingering desire to help pregnant moms. Soon after, I obtained my Massage Licensed through the State of Pennsylvania. I worked for multiple chiropractor practices and received certifications specializing in prenatal, postpartum, and induction massages. I completed my Certification Doula requirements through DONA, mentored with The Growing Place in Emmaus, PA and shadowed under DONA International Certified Doula since 2002 / Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator Virginia Rivenbark. I have supported moms at hospitals in the parts of New Jersey, Lehigh Valley, Wilkes Barre, Danville, Bloomsburg, Williamsports, Lewisburg, Scranton, Honsedale consisting of both vaginal and cesarean births. Beyond hospital births I have supported moms birthing at home; including, water births with area midwives.
When I am not attending a birth or conducting an infant massage workshop you can find me working at a Holistic Wellness Center in Kingston PA, Thrive Wellness Center. Thrive gives my moms-to-be opportunity to further educate themselves about nutrition and health care by Holistic Healthcare Practitioners, Licensed Nurse Practitioners, and Holistic Nutritional Consultants. Supplementary to prenatal expertise I hold certifications in modalities of Reiki, Thai Massages, and aromatherapy. As a Birth Doula, I take the time to get to know each of her moms-to-be needs and wishes to ensure they too have a fulfilling healthy pregnancy birthing experience to share with their child.
While supporting moms into their transition into life with baby postpartum, baby blues, low energy and inadequate milk supply become a reality to some. During my search to find a solution to help moms overcome these barriers I came across placenta encapsulation. I completed my Placenta Specialist Certification through IPPA because of their intensive training, support and a scope of practice. Even though placenta consumption is not regulated by the FDA client feedback has reported positive results.
